Congresswoman deserves support for advocacy and leadership on numerous animal welfare issues.
Washington D.C. — Animal Wellness Action, a national policy and political organization seeking to enhance and advance legal protections for animals, has endorsed the reelection of Anna Paulina Luna in the race for Florida’s 13th Congressional district.
The group lauded her strong advocacy and leadership on numerous animal welfare issues. She co-sponsored the FIGHT Act, H.R. 2742, to combat dogfighting and cockfighting; the MINKS are Superspreaders Act, H.R. 7670, to ban dangerous mink farming; the Greyhound Protection Act, H.R. 3894; and the SAFE Act, H.R. 3475, to halt live exports of American horses for slaughter for consumption.
“Anna Paulina Luna is one of the leaders on animal welfare in the U.S. Congress,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action. “She understands that cruelty to animals is wrong and that it’s typically bound up with other forms of social violence and static thinking.”
He offered special appreciation for her leadership with a Republicans-only sign-on letter to House Agriculture Committee Chairman G.T. Thompson expressing vigorous opposition to the EATS Act, H.R. 4417. She worked with nine Republican colleagues to sign the letter opposing the EATS Act, arguably the most dangerous and ill-advised farm policy proposal to come before the Congress in U.S. history. The EATS Act would wipe out important farm animal welfare laws in states, including Prop 12 in California and Question 3 in Massachusetts, which were overwhelmingly adopted by voters.

“A maneuver by some Republicans in Congress to overturn American elections related to farm animal welfare is outrageous and it is driven by Smithfield Foods, which is wholly controlled by the Chinese Communist Party,” added Pacelle.
“Congress should not be genuflecting to Beijing’s political leaders and setting the stage for the emergence of high-risk hog factories in our homeland,” said. “We are grateful Rep. Luna is standing in the way of upending the best forms of American agriculture. We urge voters in the 13th Congressional District of Florida to back her this fall.”
Florida was the first state in the nation to ban the use of gestation crates. It did so by ballot initiative more than two decades ago. The full endorsement letter for Rep. Luna may be viewed here.
