Congresswoman deserves support for steadfast leadership on numerous animal welfare issues.
Washington D.C. — Animal Wellness Action, a national policy and political organization seeking to enhance and advance legal protections for animals, has endorsed Rep. Dina Titus for re-election in the race for Nevada’s 1st congressional district.
The group lauded her strong leadership to pass crucial legislation including the Planning for Animal Wellness (PAW) Act, which led to the creation of federal guidelines for animal care during emergencies, as well as the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act, the first national anti-cruelty law.
“Dina Titus is one of Congress’s most important and determined leaders on animal welfare,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action. “She understands that cruelty to animals is wrong and that it’s often linked to other forms of social violence.”
Pacelle expressed special appreciation that earlier this year, Rep. Titus co-signed a bipartisan letter from 171 members of Congress expressing opposition to the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act, which would federally overturn certain voter-approved state laws to protect farm animals from extreme confinement in cramped cages.
Rep. Titus was also praised for being a friend to wild horses. She is the author of the Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act to address helicopter roundups and a co-sponsor of the Veterans for Mustangs Act to improve fertility control efforts.
Pacelle applauded Rep. Titus for her ongoing work to protect animals in every part of American life. She was commended for her work on the Animal Violence Exposes Real Threat of (AVERT) Future Violence Act, which highlights the link between animal cruelty and interpersonal violence, the Cease Animal Research Grants Overseas (CARGO) Act, which seeks to end taxpayer-funded animal experiments overseas, and the Providing Essential Temporary Shelter Assistance For Emergencies (PETSAFE) Act, which would provide shelter assistance for pets during emergencies.
“We urge voters in the 1st congressional district of Nevada to back Rep. Titus this fall,” Pacelle said.
