LOCATION: Remote but must be willing to work 8 a.m.-5 p.m. E

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced email and audience Growth professional to own and scale our email program across two closely aligned nonprofit organizations. This role blends strategic growth planning with hands-on execution inside our CRM, with growth built around our history of tangible, measurable progress for animals and about 20 major campaigns that address systemic abuse and mistreatment of domesticated and wild animals. The ideal candidate will drive subscriber acquisition, build sophisticated segmentation strategies, execute high-performing email campaigns, and safeguard list health, all while using data to continuously optimize performance.

This role is responsible not only for email execution and list growth, but for designing and optimizing the full supporter journey—from first action or signup through repeat giving, advocacy engagement, and long-term sustainer conversion.

The position is remote and reports to the Senior Director of Communications, working closely with fundraising, advocacy, and digital content teams.

DUTIES

1. List Growth & Acquisition Strategy

  • Design and execute comprehensive strategies to grow email subscribers for AWA and CHE through petitions, advocacy actions, lead magnets, partnerships, paid acquisition, and website optimization.

  • Collaborate with advocacy, policy, and communications staff to ensure list-building efforts align with priority campaigns (e.g., wildlife protection, farm-animal reform, corporate accountability).

  • Evaluate and test acquisition channels to improve quality, engagement, and downstream conversion to donors and action-takers.

  • Investigate potential of contracted printed mail pieces and phone outreach.

  • Priority goals are to grow total numbers of donors, advocates, and monthly sustainers.

2. Segmentation, Targeting & Lifecycle Email

  • Develop and maintain robust segmentation frameworks, including:

    • Behavioral segments (donors, monthly donors, lapsed donors, activists, event attendees).

    • Topical segments (issue-specific signups such as wolves, factory farming, wildlife protection, corporate campaigns, webinars, and petitions).

  • Design and execute targeted email journeys that increase:

    • Donation frequency and average gift size

    • Monthly donor conversions

    • Advocacy participation and sustained engagement

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to tailor messaging by audience, issue, and organizational brand (AWA vs. CHE).

3. Email Production & CRM Execution

  • Build, schedule, test, and deploy email campaigns directly within the CRM/email platform.

  • Maintain strict standards for list hygiene, deliverability, and compliance (CAN-SPAM, unsubscribe management, suppression logic).

  • Monitor list health metrics including deliverability, bounce rates, spam complaints, unsubscribes, and engagement decay.

4. Analytics, Reporting & Optimization

  • Track and analyze performance across acquisition, engagement, and fundraising metrics (open rates, CTR, conversion rates, revenue per subscriber, retention).

  • Produce regular performance reports with insights and actionable recommendations.

  • Continuously test subject lines, send times, messaging frameworks, calls to action, and segmentation strategies to improve ROI.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with fundraising, advocacy, and communications teams to align email strategy with organizational goals.

  • Translate campaign objectives into effective email execution timelines and workflows.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in digital marketing, digital communications or related field.

  • Minimum 5-plus years of experience managing email marketing and list growth, preferably in nonprofit advocacy, politics, or mission-driven organizations.

  • Demonstrated success growing email lists while improving donor conversion and retention.

  • Strong hands-on experience working inside a CRM or email platform (e.g., EveryAction, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, HubSpot, ActionKit, Pardot, or similar).

  • Deep understanding of segmentation, deliverability, list health, and lifecycle marketing.

  • Highly analytical, with comfort using data to guide decisions.

  • Able to balance big-picture strategy with detailed execution and QA.
