Congressman deserves support for advocacy and leadership on numerous animal welfare issues.
Washington D.C. — Animal Wellness Action, a national policy and political organization seeking to enhance and advance legal protections for animals, has endorsed the reelection of Nicole Malliotakis in the race for New York’s 11th Congressional district.
The group lauded her strong advocacy and leadership on numerous animal welfare issues. She co-sponsored the FIGHT Act, H.R. 2742, to combat dogfighting and cockfighting; the Greyhound Protection Act, H.R. 3894; and the SAFE Act, H.R. 3475, to halt the live export of healthy American equines for slaughter for human consumption.
“Nicole Malliotakis is one of the leaders on animal welfare in the U.S. Congress,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action. “She understands that cruelty to animals is wrong and that it’s typically bound up with other forms of social violence and static thinking.”
He offered special appreciation for her leadership in being the lead sponsor of H.R. 1788, Goldie’s Act. That bipartisan measure has more than 110 cosponsors and is designed to protect dogs in so-called “puppy mills” by enhancing the enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act. The important bill requires the U.S. Department of Agriculture to increase the frequency of its site inspections and improve its reporting of those who violate federal law.
Pacelle added, “We are grateful that Rep. Malliotakis is standing in the way of upending the best forms of American agriculture. We urge voters in the 11th Congressional District of New York to back her this fall.”
