2025 Election Endorsement

Animal Wellness Action Endorses Rep. Angie Craig for U.S. Senate in Minnesota

National animal protection group praises Craig’s leadership on animal welfare, public safety, and responsible agriculture policy

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Animal Wellness Action (AWA), a national policy and political organization dedicated to advancing legal protections for animals and promoting public safety, announced today its endorsement of U.S. Rep. Angie Craig in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Minnesota, scheduled for August 11, 2026.

“Angie Craig has been a consistent and courageous leader on animal protection throughout her time in Congress,” said Wayne Pacelle, President of Animal Wellness Action. “From combating organized animal fighting to defending endangered wildlife, she understands that how we treat animals reflects our values as a society, and that protecting animals often protects communities and families as well.”

Since taking office in 2019, Rep. Craig has championed national legislation to strengthen animal welfare protections. As Ranking Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee, she has continued to advance policies that protect animals while supporting responsible farming. She is a cosponsor of key measures including the Fighting Inhumane Gambling and High-Risk Trafficking (FIGHT) Act to combat dogfighting and cockfighting, the Greyhound Protection Act to close the remaining greyhound racing industry, and the SAFE Act to end the live export of American horses for slaughter.

Rep. Craig has also been a strong defender of endangered wildlife and public health. She opposed repeated efforts in Congress, led by Rep. Lauren Boebert, to strip federal protections from gray wolves in Minnesota, a step that would have allowed trophy hunting and commercial trapping while jeopardizing deer herd health and facilitating the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease.

In addition, Rep. Craig has fought against efforts to undermine state-level farm animal welfare laws, including Prop 12 in California and similar policies that ensure humane conditions for livestock. Animal Wellness Action highlighted that legislation such as the so-called Save Our Bacon Act would put farmers at risk, favor foreign agribusiness interests, and drive down standards of animal care.

“Rep. Craig’s record demonstrates a comprehensive commitment to humane animal policy, public safety, and the support of responsible farming,” Pacelle said. “We are proud to endorse her in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate and look forward to continuing this work with her in the Senate on behalf of the people of Minnesota.”

Animal Wellness Action encourages Minnesota voters to support Angie Craig in the Democratic primary and advance her record of principled leadership and results-driven action on animal welfare and public policy.
