Congressman deserves support for advocacy and leadership on numerous animal welfare issues.
Washington D.C. — Animal Wellness Action, a national policy and political organization seeking to enhance and advance legal protections for animals, has endorsed the reelection of Mike Carey in the race for Ohio’s 15th Congressional district.
The group lauded his strong advocacy and leadership on numerous animal welfare issues. He co-sponsored the FIGHT Act, H.R. 2742, to combat dogfighting and cockfighting; the FDA Modernization Act 3.0, H.R. 7248, to reduce animal testing; and the SAFE Act, H.R. 3475, to halt the live export of healthy American horses for slaughter for human consumption.
The FIGHT Act, to take one example, has been endorsed by the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association and the Ohio Poultry Association. The groups share the view of Animal Wellness Action that dogfighting and cockfighting are barbaric and are bound up with other crimes. It is also a threat to egg producers, in the second largest egg-producing state in the nation.
“Mike Carey is one of the leaders on animal welfare in the U.S. Congress,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action. “He understands that cruelty to animals is wrong and that it’s typically bound up with other forms of social violence and static thinking.”
“We urge humane-minded Ohioans to support him in this fall’s election,” added Pacelle.
