Congressman deserves support for steadfast commitment to animal welfare.
Washington D.C. — Animal Wellness Action, a national policy and political organization seeking to enhance and advance legal protections for animals, has endorsed Brendan Boyle for reelection in the race for Pennsylvania’s 2nd congressional district.
The group lauded his co-sponsorship of a wide range of animal welfare measures, including the Fighting Inhumane Gambling and High-Risk Trafficking (FIGHT) Act (H.R. 2742) to crack down on the criminal practices of dogfighting and cockfighting, the Puppy Protection Act (H.R. 1624) to enhance standards of care for breeding dogs, the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R. 3475) to end the slaughter and export of horses for human consumption, and the Addressing Digestive Distress in the Stomachs of Our Youth (ADD SOY) Act (H.R. 1619) to ease a production burden on dairy cows by giving schoolchildren access to a nutritionally equivalent non-dairy milk option in the National School Lunch Program.
“Brendan Boyle is one of the leaders on animal welfare in the U.S. Congress,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action. “He understands that cruelty to animals is wrong and that it’s typically bound up with other forms of social violence.”
Pacelle expressed special appreciation that earlier this year, Rep. Boyle opposed two irresponsible measures the Republican Leadership brought up for votes on the House floor. One of those bills would have weakened the Endangered Species Act by prematurely delisting gray wolves in the lower 48 states, and the other would have tied the hands of state and local authorities, preventing them from properly regulating the use of hazardous lead ammunition on public lands and waterways.
“We urge voters in the 2nd congressional district of Pennsylvania to back Rep. Boyle this fall,” Pacelle said.
