Animal Wellness Action Endorses Lisa McClain in Race for Re-Election in Michigan’s 9th Congressional District

Congresswoman hailed as a stalwart fighter for commonsense animal welfare policies

Washington, D.C. — Animal Wellness Action, a national policy and political organization seeking to enhance and advance legal protections for animals, has endorsed Rep. Lisa McClain for re-election in the race for Michigan’s 9th congressional district.

The group lauded her strong leadership as the author of the Accountability in Foreign Animal Research (AFAR) Act (H.R. 5020) to stop taxpayer dollars from being used to fund experiments on animals in certain adversarial foreign countries, as well as the Veterans for Mustangs Act (H.R. 726) which would employ our nation’s veterans to implement humane fertility controls on wild horses and burros on federal lands, reducing the reliance on inhumane helicopter roundups as a wildlife management strategy.

“Lisa McClain is one of Congress’s most important and determined leaders on animal welfare,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action. “She understands that cruelty to animals is wrong and that it’s often linked to other forms of social violence.”

Pacelle also applauded the congresswoman for co-sponsoring the Fighting Inhumane Gambling and High-Risk Trafficking (FIGHT) Act (H.R. 2742), to crack down on organized dogfighting and cockfighting, and the Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act (H.R. 3090) to curtail the abusive practice of horse soring, in which the front limbs of walking horses are intentionally injured to produce an exaggerated gait for horse shows.

“We urge voters in the 9th congressional district of Michigan to back Rep. McClain this fall,” Pacelle said.
